Silk Stockings has a new name! You may be wondering why…

The original Silk Stockings site was established in 1988 and built up a considerable and loyal customer base both while based in Glastonbury and after the move to Cannock. However when the parent company went into administration at the end of 2006, the site was rescued by Stockings HQ - the biggest dedicated stockings retailer on the Web.

As we spoke to our suppliers and customers about the acquisition, we kept being asked the same questions. Where do you get silk stockings from? Is it silkstockings.com? How is it different to Stockings HQ?

And yet as we looked at the site and the customer base, one thing became clear… customers went to Stockings HQ for the biggest possible range of stockings, while Silk Stockings visitors primarily demanded tights.

When we acquired the site, it arrived without any stock. We were then faced with the challenge of re-building it from scratch, developing the widest possible product range while remaining sensitive to the needs and expectations of visitors.

We spoke to customers and manufacturers and decided to compile a dream product selection based on the finest hosiery in the world - concentrating on the tights customers expect, but adding the widest possible range of stockings, hold-ups, and more.

We then set about acquiring the products, working with manufacturers to ensure we could offer the biggest selection of hosiery at the lowest possible price. Rather than accepting low quality pack scans, we demanded suppliers give us access to their original high resolution photography. Where this wasn't available, we re-photographed products in our own studio on the upper floor of our 7,000 sq ft warehouse facility.

We built a new warehouse network, and doubled dispatch capacity to 10 simultaneous workdesks. We built a new shopping platform with cutting edge stock control and online customer service facilities. We recruited new staff and trained them in readiness of the relaunch. We wrote 50,000 words of new product descriptions.

And yet during this process the same questions kept re-emerging. So we asked some questions of ourselves: why call a site Silk Stockings when silk stockings represent less than 0.2% of the product range? Why have a hyphen in the domain name when it confuses people? Why limit it to just a .co.uk domain when there's such demand from customers worldwide? Why not have something which far better reflects the content and product range of the site? If customers come looking for tights, why not have tights in the name? And if the product range is primarily tights and more, why not just rename the site TightsAndMore.com? And so we did.

So, welcome to our new site. We hope you enjoy it. We hope you'll enjoy the products as well! If you have any comments or requests we would love to hear from you at our new email address: customercare@tightsandmore.com.

Many thanks for visiting!
